The Batman is one the most iconic and coolest superheroes out there. He has been through pain, tragedy, challenges and victories. From such an iconic character, there are many lessons we can learn from him regarding life, our professions and business. The Dark Knight trilogy that has grossed over $2 billion and has further elevated the legend of batman. In this trilogy we get insightful concepts from movie quotations that are great lessons that we can think upon. Here are some quotes and lessons from the Dark Knight we can all benefit from:
Actions are greater than intentions
"Its not who we are underneath but what we do that defines us"
We can claim to be certain people who are capable of certain actions. However, it is in what we do that determines who or what we are. Reasons are not worth much but it is in the execution of action that your worth is proven. Actions and execution are all that matter.
Symbols and ideals are long lasting
"People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy, and I can’t do that as Bruce Wayne. As a man, I’m flesh and blood; I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol… as a symbol I can be incorruptible. I can be everlasting"
Batman is a symbol of justice and hope, he is more than just a man. If the man dies, then he is finished but a symbol can endure for a longer period of time. Great organizations and movements are not normally structured around a person but rather a worthy ideal that will outlast them. Structure your team, organization and family around an ideal and it will endure long after you are gone.
Failure is not final - get back up
“Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up”
All of us will fail in our journeys, and sometimes it will seem hard to get up and keep going. Some let the failures define them however it is not the failure that defines you but the willingness to rise again after you have fallen. Let us fail forward.
Never remain complacent
"Peace has cost you your strength, victory has defeated you."
Once victory and success is reached, there can be an inertia and complacency that can take over. In this case we can stop striving, improving and innovating. Then someone or something new comes into the the picture to try us and because we have not benefited from our success, we can end up losing. Keep on striving and never remain complacent.
Persistence and endurance are key
"Endure, Master Wayne. Take it. They'll hate you for it, but that's the point of Batman, he can be the outcast"
Life is not a sprint but it is a marathon. In a marathon there are times when it is hard and the idea of keeping on is immensely hard. However, it is the quality of being able to persist and endure that separates those who make it and those who don't. No matter how hard it is or how bad it gets, let us persist and endure.
